Remember Neopets? One of the online games that defined our collective childhood? We may feel guilty that all of our old Neopets are probably dead by now (or resorting to cannibalism), but on a much brighter note, they’re making a new mobile game that combines Scrabble and Neopets lore. The news dropped at San Diego Comic-Con yesterday.
Its format will be similar to other games in the puzzle fighting genre; you will battle against other players’ Neopets by playing a word-puzzle game similar to Scrabble. The game’s content is separate from your browser account, so you can’t play with your trusty old Neopets you’ve had since you were a kid. (Although, let’s be honest with ourselves, that’s probably for the best). You can, however, customize your Neopet through cosmetic items that can be purchased through micro transactions. There is also a story that will play out in a comic book style between the levels.
The game will be available as a mobile app, and you’ll be able to play on the mobile site or in browser, depending on your preference. It’s set to launch this October for iOS and Android, and according to CEO David Lord, it will also be coming to “Microsoft and Amazon,” although we’re not quite sure what that means yet. Either way, we’re looking forward to trying it out and getting a flood of nostalgia while we’re at it.
