Making a Commitment. With Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter’s superhero TV track record, it’s no wonder that a network has already shown interest in their Black Lightning series. Confidence. Insecurities are a thing we all grapple with, and HBO is embracing them in the new comedy Insecure created by Issa Rae and Larry Wilmore. The above trailer shows both the lighthearted jokes and deeper moments the eight-episode first season will delve into. Point your remote towards HBO on October 9 to catch the premiere.

Live Long and Celebrate. Star Trek just hit its fiftieth anniversary. Yeah, it’s been 50 years since the Enterprise first started exploring the final frontier–wild, right? EPIX is joining the Star Trek party by hosting a film marathon beginning at 7:00a.m. on September 10. In other words, you don’t have to make any other plans this weekend. The marathon includes: The Motion Picture, Wrath of Khan, Search for Spock, The Final Frontier, Undiscovered Country, Insurrection, Trekkies, and The Captains.

That Voice. Majel Barrett has voiced the Starfleet computer throughout Star Trek’s history. She worked on all the television series and many of the films, and even though she passed away in 2008, they might still use her voice on Star Trek: Discovery. Barrett once recorded a library of phonetic sounds, so her computer voice could be pieced together once again. [Nerdist]

When Am I? Barry Allen created a hot mess by going back in time (again) in the season two finale. When season three of The Flash arrives to The CW on October 4, there are consequences–including a new version of Cisco with shiny hair and a vast amount of wealth. Don’t Nix This. It’s easy to forget the multitude of projects J.J. Abrams and Bad Robot are involved in because the list is long. It includes 11.22.63, Westworld, and a new series called The Nix, among others. Abrams will direct and produce the adaptation of Nathan Hill’s recent novel, and it will star none other than Meryl Streep. Fancy, eh? We’ll update you when the series gets picked up. [Slashfilm]

Epic + Fantasy. Speaking of books being turned into television series: Sarah J. Maas’ Throne of Glass books are heading to Hulu. The Mark Gordon Company is working with the streaming service to develop Queen of Shadows, an “epic fantasy adventure.” The story features assassins, kings, world-threatening forces–oh my! Big Screen Only? Rumors swirled over the summer that Lionsgate is planning to take the last installment of the Divergent series to television after iffy box office performance for the previous film entries. If that happens, star Shailene Woodley isn’t into it. She told Screen Rant she isn’t necessarily interested and that she “didn’t sign up to be in a television show.” Would they recast if the series does wrap up on TV? [A.V. Club]

DVD Magic? Warner Bros. hasn’t issued the first and only season of Constantine on DVD and Blu-ray yet, but that might be changing? Maybe? An ad promoting the Constantine home release appeared in recent DC comic books, but it’s not on the Warner Archive website and Warner Bros. declined to comment to CBR. Does that mean they’ve changed their mind? Or maybe news about the release is out earlier than they intended? I have a hunch it’s only a matter of time before we get an official confirmation. [CBR]
