Did watching Hannibal make you hungry? If so, you definitely have a strong stomach… and perhaps some psychological issues to work out. Either way, if those rich, mouthwatering food scenes delighted you, you’ll be happy to know that you can now bloody up your kitchen with a Hannibal-themed cookbook.
Titan Books has released Feeding Hannibal: A Connoisseurâs Cookbook, inspired by the popular NBC series (itself inspired by the award-winning movie… which indeed was inspired by the modern classic novel). More than just a log of recipes, this collection features dishes from the show accompanied by anecdotes, artwork, and photos of the cast and crew on set.
The easy-to-follow recipes were created by the showâs food stylist Janice Poon; the book is named after her behind-the-scenes blog also titled, Feeding Hannibal.
We received an exclusive look at one recipe from the book, “Tenderloin of Beef in a Tent for Two.” The stunning meal is served to Freddie Lounds, Abigail, and Will in episode 109. Poor Freddie is a vegetarian, but if you partake in a carnivorous lifestyle, this oneâs definitely for you… though you might want to leave off the decorative bird skulls. They’re kind of an appetite killer (pun intended).
The beauty of the book is the inclusion of Poonâs original concept sketches, which accompany each recipe. She describes the mentality behind her dishes’ colors, textures, and plating techniques. For the beef tenderloin shot she added a bit of raspberry purée to emphasize the rareness of the meat; berry and beef pair quite well together, should you want to serve up a screen-worthy dish of your own at dinnertime.
Feeding Hannibal: A Connoisseurâs Cookbook will be available October 18.
