New GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY 2 Concept Art Shows Crazy Alien Monster

I think it was the famed astronomer Johannes Kepler who said while gazing at the stars through the refracting telescope of his own design, “Boy, there’s some crazy shit in outer space.” And that adage — that may have actually been coined by a guy I knew from college — continues to be true in science fiction, where all sorts of behemoth monsters and spiky-headed terrors are said to exist. If only there were some group of heroes to protect us from such things… oh wait! There is. They’re called the Guardians of the Galaxy, and they’ve got many tentacles to face since their first victory.

Director James Gunn recently tweeted a bit of concept art from Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2 from an Empire Magazine exclusive that depicts our heroes–Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket, and Baby Groot–fighting off some unnamed, many armed space beastie with a mouth full of teeth and a taste for flesh.

First of all, just have a look at Baby Groot, who appears to be having the time of his recently regrown life. Wouldn’t it be cute if he hung around on Rocket’s shoulder for this movie? I think it would be. It also doesn’t look like the monster likes having all these good guys around, blasting at him and cutting him with daggers and so on.

While we don’t know for sure this will even be happening in the movie when it comes out next spring, we could easily see this fight as a fun kind of opening action sequence before our heroes get to the main baddie, Ayesha played by Elizabeth Debicki. Or maybe the monster is the literal big bad at the end. Who can say? But we do know what our new desktop backgrounds will be for awhile.

Speculate on what kind of thing this thing could be in the comments below!

Space heroes? You mean like Captain Marvel?
