New GAME OF THRONES Video Dissects THAT SCENE’s Importance in Westeros

One of the longstanding—and, frankly, fun—aspects of being a fan of Game of Thrones is speculating on the importance of certain things. Particularly the historical happenings that have led us to this point, and how people of the Realm have come to understand the who/what/where/when/why of it all. And though hinted at throughout the series for years—particularly in the case of Rhaegar Targaryen, the leader before Robert Baratheon took over—this is the first instance where we’re finally know the true history, rather than the mythology, of this game-changing moments.

Naturally/of course, we’re talking about that long-awaited Tower of Joy scene that took place during Sunday night’s “Oathbreaker.” And in this new behind-the-scenes video, showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss break down why, exactly, it was just that important to not only see the unreliability of so much of what we’ve heard, but also see someone as noble as Ned Stark possibly/maybe lie. (Or, at least, not be so truthful about what really went down.) Naturally, this is only the tip of the proverbial iceberg on this one—R+L=J!—but we’ll wait until next week’s episode to really dive deeper into that one (at least we HOPE they’ll show us next week, ugh).

Elsewhere, the video also dissects Jon Snow’s awakening and Dany’s “homecoming” to Vaes Dothrak and the Dosh Khaleen. It’s all pretty interesting on a contextual level, so we highly suggest watching and getting your fill because trust us: things are only going to get more bonkerific from here, y’all. The night is dark and full of CRAZY!

What do you think of the video? Let us know in the comments below.

And while we’re here, why not check out another (possibly) Tower of Joy-related theory:
