New FORCE AWAKENS Footage Posted to STAR WARS Instagram

In this age of social media supremacy, it behooves one to pay attention to any and all platforms, because one never knows where new trinkets and pieces of awesome are going to debut. For instance, Thursday morning, followers of the official Star Wars Instagram feed got treated to 15 seconds of footage from The Force Awakens, some of which we’ve seen and some of which we certainly haven’t. Gah! If only Instagram videos could be LONGER.

Here’s the video:

Up first, we have the same shot of the First Order we saw in the Korean TV spot we told you about earlier in August. This is accompanied by a different take of Andy Serkis‘ still-unseen General Snoke saying “There has been an awakening.”

Second, we have a new shot of Daisy Ridley‘s Rey with BB-8 behind her looking up at something with a mix of awe and concern. I mean, Rey’s got that expression; I have no idea what BB-8’s thinking. They seem to be in a heavily wooded, or at least grassy, area.

Then we have that familiar shot from the first teaser in which Adam Driver‘s Kylo Ren walks down a ramp in a snowy woods and lights up his tri-saber.

And finally we get the money shot: John Boyega‘s Finn, also in that same snowy woods lighting up his own shining blue lightsaber, just as was depicted in the Drew Struzan poster given out during D23 Expo.

This confirms a lot of speculation, it would seem, that at least Finn is in some way force sensitive and possibly the “awakening” force from the title. Of course, he could also just be using a lightsaber, which non-Jedi have done in the past, but that seems less likely.

In total, that’s about 9 whole seconds of new footage (I counted). It’s both amazing and infuriating that we only have these little bits to get us excited. But they’re certainly working. We are DYING.

Let us know your thoughts and theories on Finn, Rey, and the rest of the Force Awakens characters in the comments below!
