It’s been on our minds since we left the theater in 2003, and it’s getting closer and closer. The Finding Nemo sequel, Finding Dory, will be available for our viewing starting on June 17, and the good people at Ellen have graced us with a new teaser. The two-and-a-half-minute trailer includes tons of new footage, and sheds more light on Dory’s backstory and the adventure she’s setting up to have on her own.
The main plot line, in classic Disney/Pixar fashion, is bittersweet. It turns out that Dory was orphaned from a very young age, and her short-term memory loss didn’t make finding her parents any easier, which explains why she hadn’t yet during the time of Finding Nemo.
Fast forward to some point after the events of the first movie and Dory is scooped up by humans and taken to an animal sanctuary. Much like Nemo’s original tribulations, Dory is going to have to rely on the help of some friends from the inside, which is where it looks like the much-needed levity will come in. In this trailer, we get to see a few of the previously-revealed new characters, including Becky the ocean loon and the pair of sea lions voices by Idris Elba and Dominic West.
Check out the trailer above and let us know in the comments if you’re already lined up outside your local movie theater (and if you can see us waving at you).
