New eBooks Will Delve Deeper Into the Wizarding World of HARRY POTTER

The Battle of Hogwarts, when Harry Potter finally defeated Voldemort at the conclusion of The Deathly Hallows, continues to feel less and less like the finale of the story, and more and more like an intermission. That’s because this year, in addition to the new play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child–currently running in London and whose script book has already sold millions and million of copies–and the upcoming release of the prequel Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them movie (and all of the supplementary pieces that have already been released for it), we are going to get more books and stories that offer fans an even deeper look at the magical world of author J.K. Rowling.

Today, Pottermore announced that next month, on September 6, three new short story collections will be released as eBooks. Pottermore Presents will contain stories from the website’s archives, as well as new, never-before-read pieces from Rowling herself.

They say that the three books, each with a different theme, will offer “added insights into the stories, settings and characters” from the wizarding world of Harry Potter. The three eBooks in the series will include:

  • Hogwarts: An Incomplete and Unreliable Guide, which promises to examine the “nooks and crannies” of the famous school, including what happens if the Sorting Hat can’t make up its mind on a student’s house placement, as well a closer look at the schools ghosts.
  • Short Stories from Hogwarts of Power, Political and Pesky Poltergeists, focusing on “the darker roots” of magic, like the Ministry of Magic’s many issues, Azkaban prison, and a totally new story from Rowling on Professor Horace Slughorn.
  • Short Stories from Hogwarts of Heroism, Hardship and Dangerous Hobbies, about the “the colourful staff of Hogwarts,” like Silvanus Kettleburn (only ever mentioned in the books, but who sounds perfectly wild enough to merit further investigation), and a piece on Professor McGonagall from Rowling about McGonagall’s role in the second wizarding war.

Other stories that were teased as part of the collection include why children in the Black family get such weird names (like Sirius-ly, why are they so weird?), “how a witch or wizard becomes a portrait,” as well as “what J.K. Rowling really thinks about Professor Umbridge.” (uh, she’s evil and should have ended up in Azkaban at the conclusion of Order of the Phoenix, not back working at the Ministry of Magic…not that we are still mad about that or anything).

Each comes with a very Harry Potter-esque looking cover, which makes sense since they were designed by Miraphora Mina and Eduardo Lima, the same duo that created the art for the movies.

You will be able to buy the books (individually if you want) from Pottermore, and they will be available in English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Dutch, Brazilian Portuguese, and Spanish. You can already pre-order them from eBook retailers Barnes and Noble, Amazon, Amazon UK, and iBooks.

With so many hundreds of millions of fans around the world, there are plenty who would rather the world of Harry Potter truly ended at the Battle of Hogwarts with Voldemort’s death, but if you are one of those people it will be plenty easy to just ignore these books, whereas lots of other people will eagerly devour them and relish the chance to go further into this ever-growing world of magic. Intermission isn’t the worst place to find yourself, especialy when you don’t want it to be over.
