For many fans Star Trek: The Next Generation ended too soon. Luckily, little things like cancellation wonât stop TNG fans like Mike McMahan who took it upon himself to continue the legacy.
McMahanâs popular twitter account @TNG_S8 serves as the basis for his new book, Star Trek: The Next Generation: Warped from Gallery Books, the official parody guide to the unaired eighth season of Star Trek: TNG. Was there really an unaired eighth season? No, but this book will make you wish it was a reality.
“In the basement of the Star Trek archives, behind shelves of U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-D models, bags of wigs, and bins of plastic phasers, sits a dusty cardboard box. Inside is a pile of VHS tapes that contain never-before-seen episodes and behind-the-scenes footage for something truly amazing. The world thinks there are only seven seasons of Star Trek: The Next Generation, but thereâs one more. A secret season.”
The parody guide is filled with what-ifs, faux season 8 Star Trek: TNG facts and stories accompanied by artist Jason Hoâs brilliantly amusing illustrations. Colorful images of a confident Riker and spritely undeterred Picard, makes you wish for an animated TNG show.
Well versed in TV comedy, McMahanâs credits include fan faves Adult Swimâs Rick and Morty and FOXâs Axe Cop. If McMahanâs wit hits you right in the Star Trek feels, itâs because it comes from the heart of a true fan. The man even named his cat Riker. Speaking of cats, did I mention there were cat illustrations as well? Data surrounded by space cats? More, please.
Star Trek: The Next Generation: Warped goes on sale October 13 and can be pre-ordered on amazon.com.
