Pretty much everything we’ve seen so far surrounding Netflix’s eight-episode miniseries of Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp has been hilarious, but do you know what the funniest part is: it’s a prequel. Yeah, we’ve known this for awhile, but until this trailer, we haven’t fully realized the utter absurdity of revisiting an entire original cast 14 years after a film’s release, have them all play the same characters as before, and have it set a year before the first movie. None of the cast was 18 at the time, and now they’re 40-something or higher playing 16 and 17. It’s just the best.

And the absurdist hits only keep coming thanks to the cast’s unruly hijinks. Many of the series’ eleventy billion (approximately) stars were in the first film (though a lot of them were not), but they’re all acting just as goofy as you’d hope. From Paul Rudd’s extra-cool biker dude Andy, to Amy Poehler’s high-strung theatre snob Susie, to Michael Showalter playing double duty as likable schlub Alan AND President of the United States Ronald Reagan, everybody looks like they’re having a field day. Or, I guess, a camp day.

From the looks of things, the series will also play out as an origin story for Gene the camp cook, played by Christopher Meloni, who — if you’ll remember from the film — was a crazy, bearded former special-ops soldier. At the start of camp, though, his was a different, decidedly less PTSD-laden story. A knife fight in the kitchen with a fatigue-clad newcomer named Jon Hamm will change things, surely.

All episodes of Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp will be available on Netflix July 31st, so prepare your binge now by stocking up on eye drops and muscle relaxer to soothe your aching sides.
