House of Cards, Orange is the New Black, Arrested Development, Derek…Â when it comes to new, original offerings by SVOD service Netflix, thereâs a lot to love. But now, after spending so much time in the âreal world,â the famed streaming company has opted to head back in time for its latest original series, Marco Polo. While the first teaser was ominous and full of mystery, the new, full-length, NSFW trailer sheds some light on just what ancient craziness weâre in for come December, and it looks like weâre in for something great.
Originally developed by Starz, the new Weinstein Company produced series follows the famed travelerâs adventures during his time in Kublai Khan’s court during 13th century China. The series is written by John Fusco (Forbidden Kingdom, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: The Green Legend) and stars Lorenzo Richelmy as the title character.
The first thing that immediately comes to mind when watching this trailer is, of course, Game of Thrones. However, Game of Thrones has never featured samurai battles, especially not naked samurai battles, so already we know weâre going down a slightly different path. But in all seriousness, this series looks like an amazing epic — a genre Netflix has yet to tap into — so itâs going to be interesting to see what the company has in store for this one.
Marco Polo debuts December 12, 2014Â on Netflix.

The trailer almost made me think I’m watching James Clavell’s Shogun instead of something else.
Dude, you sound really racist constantly saying Samurai when referring to Chinese and Mongolian folks.
I’m fully aware you might be trying to be humorous, but you do know that Samurai are Japanese, not Chinese, right?
I feel like I have seen this a million times already. We’ll see.
