Good morning, interwebs! If you’re itching to start your day by reading about the latest television happenings, you’re in the right place. Today’s TV-Cap has details on Jerry Seinfeld’s deal with Netflix and what it means, a new Riverdale teaser, Sherlock season four finale thoughts, and more.
All the Seinfeld. Netflix is going whole hog with Jerry Seinfeld. He’s inked a deal to make the streaming service the exclusive home for his new comedic releases starting this year. That means new episodes of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee will be coming to Netflix in late 2017, along with all the previous episodes. Two new stand-up specials are part of the package as well, and Seinfeld will be helping develop “scripted and non-scripted comedy programming for Netflix.” Whew.
A New You. The full trailer for Santa Clarita Diet is here, and it is hella charming–and oh, it goes there. By “there,” I mean it goes full gore and undead in no time at all. The show stars Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant as Sheila and Joel Hammond, realtors who have to face a big change after Sheila becomes a zombie. Yeah, and you thought you had issues. Santa Clarita Diet will debut on Netflix on February 3. [Nerdist]
Anthology Time. USA Network has picked up a new anthology series from Jessica Biel. The Sinner is based on a novel by Petra Hammesfahr and follows a young mother (played by Biel) and an investigator (Bill Pullman) as they try to figure out why Biel committed an act of violence she can’t explain. Did It Work? The series four finale (and maybe the series finale) of Sherlock aired Sunday, and I haven’t seen many favorable reviews of the latest installment. Kyle Hill discusses whether it lived up to expectations in the latest Nerdist News, embedded above. What did you think of the finale? Tell me in the comments. [Nerdist]
No Xavier Yet. IGN spoke with Legion producer Lauren Shuler Donner about the upcoming FX series, and though the whole interview is worth a read, this tidbit jumped out: they’re not taking David Haller into the world of Xavier just yet; they’re focusing on who David is and what he can do. And if Xavier comes in later, it won’t be a Xavier we’ve seen in the films. Read the interview at IGN.
Awww. Freeform’s Shadowhunters gets back into action on January 23, but fans can get a sneak peek with a clip shared by TVLine. The footage features some adorable Alec and Magnus action.
All the Flashiness. Disney Channel’s Descendants was over the top in the best kind of way, and the made for TV movie has landed a sequel. We have a new teaser for Descendants 2, coming in summer 2017, and it looks like it will live up to its predecessor. It’s all about the Villain Kids struggling to find their place in Auradon.
More Blaze? If you’ve been watching Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. this season, you probably caught a hint of the Johnny Blaze version of Ghost Rider. But will we get definitive answers about Blaze or see more of him? IGN has some comments from series executive producers Jed Whedon and Jeff Bell on that topic. Read all about it here.
A Reckoning. Things in Riverdale change in a moment, as you can see in the above tease for the upcoming CW show. The town is focused on solving a murder–I’m getting Veronica Mars vibes. We’ll all see more when the drama debuts on January 26. [Slashfilm]
For Fun. And just because, listen to a clip of Ashleigh Murray, Josie in Riverdale, showing off her vocal skills. [CBR]
Meet the Patriot. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returned Tuesday with its midseason premiere, and Jeffrey Mace was front and center. Read Joseph McCabe’s recap and see why.
Who else is pumped about Descendants 2? Head to the comments and let me know I’m not alone.
