What is The Discovery? Fans at the Sundance Film Festival will get the first chance to see the movie for themselves later this week. But within the world of the film, the Discovery is something that may have ruined life on Earth for ever…and it’s all Robert Redford‘s fault!
Redford is starring as Dr. Thomas Harbor, the man who made the incredible scientific breakthrough that proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that the afterlife exists. There is a life beyond this world, and that’s a big problem. Because now that people know the truth, they’re a little bit too eager to get to their eternal reward and the suicide rate is skyrocketing at an alarming rate.
This is also a love story of sorts between Isla (Rooney Mara) and Will (Jason Segel), two people who aren’t quite ready to let go of their lives yet. But that doesn’t mean that they can’t engage in relationship-building exercises like transporting a body and nearly drowning themselves. It’s a new world, so who are we to judge? Although if the new trailer is any indication, the people who aren’t killing themselves are rapidly becoming the minority.
The Discovery also stars Riley Keough, Jesse Plemons, Ron Canada, and Kimleigh Smith. The film will premiere at Sundance this Friday, January 20, before making its Netflix debut on Friday, March 31.
