Nerdist’s Kyle Hill Named Host of MYTHBUSTERS: THE SEARCH!

It brings us here at Nerdist great, personal joy to bring you some truly fantastic news: today the Science Channel has announced that our very own science editor, Kyle Hill, has been named host of their upcoming new show, MythBusters: The Search.

MythBusters: The Search will look to find a whole new group of scientists to continue the MythBusters tradition, by having them put their “killer build skills, science smarts, and nerves of steel” on the line every week in an effort to become “the next myth-busting superstars.” And guiding them along that journey as host will be Kyle Hill.

Each week as host Kyle will introduce the contestants to “never before seen spectacular stunts” that will test them in a range of myth-busting requirements, with some stunts focusing on “build skills,” while others will “require science know-how,” and some will test their “ingenuity” and “resolve.”

Those contestants will be lucky to have the best possible host to help them on their quest.

“Kyle is an enormous talent and the ultimate MythBusters super fan,” said the Science Channel’s General Manager, Marc Etkind, “With his encyclopedic knowledge of every MythBusters episode and stunt ever attempted, he is the ideal host to introduce our all-new myths and potential future mythbusters.”

Kyle doesn’t just know a lot about MythBusters, which ended its 14 year run earlier this year, few have as much love and admiration for the influential series as he does. If you’ve never heard him talk about the show and what it means to him personally, read his beautiful, heartfelt ode to the series from this past March. There are truly no better, caring hands they could have put the franchise in than Kyle’s.

Especially because he’s already one the best science hosts around. Not only as he already appeared on the Science Channel before, as a contributor to their show How To Build . . . Everything, he is the host of our series Because Science. I mean, how many people have ever thought to ask how many calories the Stay Puft Marshmallow man contained? Or whether or not Dragon Ball Z’s zero gravity training would kill you? And even if someone thought to ask, how many people would have the requisite science knowledge and skills to actually figure out the answer?

As someone who has been lucky enough to write science stories for this website, I can tell you from personal experience that Kyle’s knowledge of all things science–and I mean all things science, from every corner and field of the scientific world–is impossible to truly grasp. It can be intimidating how much he knows, but I know those contestants will be in good hands because no one is better and more patient about explaining difficult concepts than he is.

It’s hard to explain the relief and confidence you feel when you can call your editor and say, “I’ve never even heard of this term in this obscure science paper, and there’s literally nothing coming up about it on the internet,” only for him to say, “Oh, yeah, that’s a tough one, here’s what that means,” all while making you feel like you did something right by asking.

The Science Channel picked the perfect host to help usher in a new generation of MythBusters. Kyle loves science, loves talking about science, knows how to make scientific concepts and ideas accessible to anyone, is a great host, and just so happens to know and love MythBusters better than anyone.

We here at Nerdist could not be any prouder, nor any happier, for Kyle Hill.

MythBusters: The Search will debut in 2017, but don’t worry, in the meantime you can still see him here every Thursday hosting Because Science.

What’s your favorite episode of Because Science? Tell us yours in the comments below and help us celebrate the best science editor and science host around.
