The heiress Sarah Winchester spent almost 40 years overseeing the never-ending construction of her hodgepodge mansion of madness as it was pieced together as a home for the very spirits who haunted her from beyond the grave. Her story is so bizarre and terrifying it made it to the big screen with this this year’s Winchester, starring none other than Helen freaking Mirren. (That’s how you know it’s one seriously messed up place!) So who better to visit the actual Winchester Mystery House in San Jose, California on Nerdist’s behalf to see if it lives up to the hypeâand horrorâthan the guru of ghosts, the sensei of strange, the master of the monstrous, Onyx the Fortuitous?
You might know him better as the host of Alpha’s The Shadow Zone, or that “Weird Satanist Guy” who shows up at horror movie cons, or even the guy who used to take your order at Arby’s. But on this trip, Onyx was a Movie Madman. And he ain’t afraid of no ghosts. Not too afraid, anyway. Hey, that place is creepy!
That’s the thing about the Winchester House of Mysteryâthere’s no way to be sure whether everyone is a ghost or no one is. And if you think about it, which one is scarier?
Winchester, starring Helen Mirren and Jason Clarke, hits DVD and Blu-ray on May 1. Ghosts may be included. Where should we send Onyx next? Don’t be afraid to tell us in the comments below.
