Ever been scammed by no good, two-timing, downright rotten, evil wizard? Same. He told me he could take all the cash in my wallet and double it with just a flick of the wand, and before I could think twice, the bastard took off running down Sunset. I tried to chase after him, but not two steps into the manhunt, the grey-bearded con artist levitated away, far into the distant serrated crevices of the hills. Sigh.
Learn from my mistake: if you ever need to track down a runaway wizard, be sure to hit up the musicians in the Portland rock band Wampire. They get results. They also know how to pen a catchy indie jam or two–replete with sax solos to boot! The slow groove of “Wizard Staff”, the first single off of their aptly named album Bazaar, sounds like a familiar hybrid of the jangly wonkiness of Mac Demarco and the psychedelia of Unknown Mortal Orchestra, which is fitting as the New Zealand-based band’s Jakob Portrait produced the Wampire’s sophomore album.
Watch below as Eric Phipps and Rocky Tinder (What a name; swipe right) go on a stake out and ultimately chase after a wizard who was hiding out in a dirty movie theater, watching a show called “Sax Addiction”. Pretty sure that is the same perv that took my wallet.
Enjoy the video below, and let us know if you have any wizard-huntin’ tips of your own.
