Talking JUSTICE LEAGUE Reshoots, Fox’s Sci-fi Comedies, and LITTLE MERMAID LIVE

Though we here at Nerdist try to be optimistic about all our most anticipated properties, some movies and TV shows foster a bit more reservation. On today’s Nerdist News Talks Back, host Dan Casey–our senior editor and the very same of The Dan Cave fame–will be diving headfirst into a few question marks on the horizon, with our valiant Editor-in-Chief and Alpha Book Club host Rachel Heine and Nerdist’s Music Editor Matt Grosinger along for the ride.

Kicking off the conversation is a film that has garnered quite a bit of skepticism from the fan community: Justice League. Now, we’re among those who stand in defense of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and we’re indeed looking forward to how Warner Bros. plans to breathe life into Aquaman, the Flash, and the rest of the team. Yet recent reports that Justice League is undergoing massive reshoots does sound an alarm.

However, we shouldn’t throw in the towel just yet. Of course reshoots of this caliber can result in calamity, such as in the case of Josh Trank’s Fant4stic. On the other hand, Rogue One turned out pretty good following rumors of the like. So which side of the spectrum will Justice League land on? Listen to Dan, Rachel, and Matt discuss their thoughts on the matter, and chime in with your own!

Next up: Two new sci-fi comedy TV series that could surely go either way. On the one hand, Seth MacFarlane doesn’t exactly have a perfect track record. On the other, his new Star Trek parody series The Orville does look pretty funny and clever, not to mention some pretty impressive production value. Then there’s Adam Scott and Craig Robinson’s The X-Files parody Ghosted, which has two formidable comic stars to its credit, but that may not be able to do its intrinsically nerdy premise justice on a mainstream network like Fox.

Finally, a phenomenon that has certainly shown us significant highs and lows alike: live TV musicals. The latest of the breed is The Little Mermaid, which should inspire excitement in Disney fans… until they remember 2014’s Peter Pan Live. Then again, we’ve seen great improvements in the form since then–you could even say that Grease Live was the night America remembered how to smile.

Red flags or not, we’re sticking to our guns and staying positive about the things we love. But what do you think about all these big question marks? Are you excited for Justice League, The Orville, Ghosted, and Little Mermaid Live? Let us know!
