Ben Falcone is an actor who you totally know, you just may not know that you know him: He first came on my radar as Air Marshall Jon in Bridesmaids, although he has been known for his work with The Groundlings for a long time. Now, he’s starring alongside Jason Bateman and Kathryn Hahn in Bad Words, which opens in select theaters this weekend and nationwide next week.
Nerdist caught up with Falcone at the Bad Words premiere and asked him about working with his friend and first time director, Jason Bateman. “I met him because Iâm married to Melissa McCarthy,” Falcone said, “and we were down and she was doing Identity Thief with Jason and so we kind of hung out together and our kids would play and stuff and then I did a little thing in there… So we met there and heâs a sweet, funny guy so I was happy to do it…Â What I want to tell you is that he was a tyrant, that he was harsh, but he was super sweet. He had a lot on his plate and he handled it so easily that it was super impressive.”
Falcone also recently stepped behind the camera for the first time, directing McCarthy in the road trip comedy Tammy, which he and McCarthy co-wrote. According to Falcone, “Itâs a story about a woman named Tammy whose life falls apart and because she has no money and she loses her job, she goes on a road trip with her grandmother, played by Susan Sarandon, whoâs amazing, and they get to know each other a little better on the road and everything and it was super, super funny. Like, a great road trip comedy.” In addition to McCarthy, Sarandon and Falcone, the cast of Tammy includes Dan Aykroyd, Sandra Oh, Kathy Bates, Gary Cole and Toni Collette.
Tammy is expected to hit theaters this summer, and Bad Wordsopens nationwide March 21!
