Marc Bernardin (Hollywood Reporter) joins Adam Beechen (Hench) and Heath Corson (Justice League: War) to talk about comic characters in other media and how they fared in 2013, including discussions of Man of Steel, Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD, Thor 2, and more.
Re: Pacific Rim
A lot of people seem to think the cliche plot was an accident, when it was entirely intentional. The Top Gun plot revolves around the conceit that only one man can save the day, and this film takes that cliche and flips it where the protagonist is a selfless humanist, who only saves the day by working as part of a collective.
I did think picking on the fan film makers was a little mis-informed. After just listening to Thomas Lennon’s interview on Riki Lindholme’s podcast, I really see his philosophy of just do it and don’t wait for permission coming into play. Sure these guys may not sign a movie deal based on these shorts, but it’s one in aa long line of things they will do before they have their real shot at being a big time director/film maker. Every step is a step.
Also in the case of the Punisher Dirty Laundry, part of that was Thomas Jane really wanted to play that character again; and I for one wanted to see him in the role. Punisher is one of the most under-rated Marvel movies.
That’s my two cents. That said, I did actually enjoy this podcast, my first tie listening to it, and of course I would disagree on some part of it.Got a few episodes on download at the moment to play some catch up.
Thanks for putting this out there.
“Meanwhile Marvel’s like ‘Here’s a raccoon with a machine gun!'” They still haven’t done a female-led superhero movie either, though. Scarlett Johanasson has been a star longer than Chris Hemsworth and Chris Evans (both talented actors, make no mistake). Maybe it’s time there’s a Black Widow movie. With Sabra and Red Guardian. 🙂
Unfortunately, you lost me at liking Iron Man 3.
