After 27 years, Neil Gaiman and Sir Terry Pratchett‘s novel, Good Omens, will finally be coming to television. And this time, Gaiman is taking care of the adaptation himself by writing all of the scripts and serving as the showrunner.
Via ComingSoon, Amazon Studios and BBC are co-producing the Good Omens adaptation, which will run for 6 hour-long episodes in 2018. Gaiman and Sir Terry’s story was first published in 1990, and numerous attempts to adapt it as a movie or a television series failed to come to pass. Gaiman previously said that he had no intention of trying to adapt it again after Sir Terry’s death. However, Gaiman later revealed that he received a letter from Sir Terry after his demise that requested Gaiman continue his attempts to get Good Omens made. Now, it appears that he has finally succeeded.
âAlmost thirty years ago, Terry Pratchett and I wrote the funniest novel we could about the end of the world, populated with angels and demons, not to mention an eleven-year old Antichrist, witchfinders and the four horsepeople of the Apocalypse,” shared Gaiman in an Amazon press release. “It became many peopleâs favourite book. Three decades later, itâs going to make it to the screen. I canât think of anyone weâd rather make it with than BBC Studios, and I just wish Sir Terry were alive to see it.â
Because Amazon is the primary studio involved with Good Omens, the miniseries will premiere on Amazon Prime video first before it arrives on the BBC. A premiere date has not yet been announced, but casting is expected to begin within the next few months.
