Wesley and Buttercup. Morticia and Gomez. Jareth and Sarah. These are not just romances to which one should aspire, they’re some of the iconic couples featured in Nan Lawson’s upcoming show at one of LA’s coolest pop art galleries, Gallery 1988. Just in time for Valentine’s Day (or even Galentine’s Day!), Nan Lawson is bringing limited edition prints of our favorite dynamic duos for a solo show aptly called “Meet Cute.”
To be honest, it feels like there’s no film or television series left untouched by Lawson, who has made quite the reputation amongst different fandoms. Known for her signature style of dreamy portraits and profiles, Lawson has created gorgeous renderings of characters like The Royal Tenenbaums‘ Margot and Richie, the ladies of Clue, Edward Scissorhands, Dana Scully, and Tororo… just to name a few. (I also own Furiosa, Lydia Deetz, and Willow Rosenberg prints, if that gives you any indication of how wide and lovely Lawson’s range is.)
Her solo show opens this Friday, January 29 at G1998 (East) with an opening reception from 7-9PM. Nan will be there in person AND it will be your first chance to snag some of the art in the exhibit. If you can’t make it (as I tragically cannot) or don’t live in Los Angeles, her work will be available for purchase on gallery1988.com beginning Saturday, January 30. You can check out a sneak peek of what will be available in our gallery below.
Nan Lawson‘s “Meet Cute” will be on display from January 29 through February 13 at Gallery 1988 (East), located at 7021 Melrose Ave. in Los Angeles, CA.
