MYTHBUSTERS Homage Video is an Epic Send-Off to an Epic Series

After 1,000 myths, 83 miles of duct tape, and more than 900 explosions, the MythBusters crew has hung up their hammers, stored their crash test dummies (Buster noooo!), and powered down their zombie-killing chainsaws. And in celebration of what was most definitely one of the best science shows in the history of television, fan and friend of the show, Thomas Crenshaw, has put together a fitting tribute video.

Fitting in that it’s three minutes long, full of explosions, car wrecks, and gunplay, and features Blur’s wooooohooooo “Song 2.”

The video starts with Hyneman and Savage’s 2002 demo reel, in which Savage says that he’s the foil to Hyneman, adding “a tonic” to Jamie’s monotone voice and his what’s-the-opposite-of-bubbly? personality. From there, the video delves—both literally and figuratively—into 14 years of some of the highest-grade rocket-launching, C-4-strapping, eyebrow-removing, mother-trucking entertainment ever to grace the world’s television screens. And it’s all expertly cut together by Crenshaw, who also made another stellar MythBusters tribute video a few years ago to mark the show’s 10th anniversary.

And if you’re wondering how we know how many explosions were in the show, as well as how much duct tape was used, well, those stats come from a pretty reliable source: the President of the United States.

As it turns out, Crenshaw wasn’t the only fan of the show who wanted to say goodbye. In an exclusive video released by Entertainment Weekly, President Obama personally thanks MythBusters for 14 years of entertainment, as well as inspiring a generation of children to ask questions about the world around them, and seek the answers using the scientific method. Also, for proving definitively that America did actually land on the moon. And how was such an incredible feat possible? Because science, that’s how!

What do you think about this MythBusters homage? What will you miss most about the show? And who’s going to separate fact from fiction on television now? Cable news?! Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below!
