Music Geek Track of the Week: Wet – “Don’t Wanna Be Your Girl”

Nerds, this week’s track is one that gave me all the feels. I always love when shimmery pop belies a really upsetting and dark message, because that is some of the hardest songwriting to craft effectively without sounding super contrived.

“Don’t Wanna Be Your Girl” has a beautifully hushed wash of synth and guitar that approximate the vestiges of a moribund relationship slowly evaporating. The song clocks in at just under 3 minutes, but it feels like an eternity every time you play it, like you are watching something melt in slow motion. And as despondent as that sounds, I can’t help but think this would be a perfect song for slow dancing, flush against your boo.

If you dig, then you should head here to check out the rest of their debut EP.
