Music Geek Track of the Week: Cuushe – Sort of Light

I really Cuushe. An indie poster child for the captivatingly wistful and always excellent Japanese label Flau, Mayuko Hitotsuyanagi composes really analgesic dream pop that makes me appreciate subtle, yet roiling textures.

This distinct appreciation registered yesterday while I was running alongside a channel of Lake Michigan, and a squall bent the topmost ripples of all the waves uniformly in the same direction. Though the submerged currents remained undetectable, for a moment, these small gestures allowed me to interface with an inscrutable entity, and understand at least some small part of a wildly vast and unpredictable mess. With each building texture in “Sort of Light,” I feel that same way — a little bit nearer to grasping the essence of a feeling I can’t quite grasp.

Listen below, and be sure to check out Cuushe’s album, Butterfly Case, out September 23.

Anonymous doesn’t know what s/he’s talking about – this is an unbelievable song. Great pick, been on repeat for me for a while.

Why are all geek tracks of the week some techno electronic blah blah?! Not all geeks or nerdist followers find that music to be awesome. Perhaps take a poll. Thanks.
