Last weekend, I visited a college buddy up in San Francisco who has always had a reliably sexy taste in music. From Prince to early-’90s R&B to modern electronic offshoots of the genre, my friend has always had his finger on the pulse of the music that you would use to seduce your boo before hopping into a bathtub overflowing with suds, plate of fruit in hand.
That’s why it was decidedly strange to hear the drippy, viscous soul jam “Yuengling” by singer/model Ari Lennox in a car full of dudes on our pre-hike car ride up to Marin for the day. Odd as that initial listen might have been, I couldn’t shake the tune all day. The way the bassy synth drunkly stumbles between the left and right speakers, Ari Lennox’s  Badu-esque vocals. The song is straight syrup, and it slowly permeated my nervous system all day long, long after I heard it in that car fulla bros. It is such a densely sensual track that I thought I had willed into existence the blankets of fog that enshrouded the city later that night, as I hummed Lennox’s tune next to a girl I was crushing on.
If you dig the track, be sure to head to Ari Lennox’s SoundCloud to do some more exploring. I have a feeling she’ll be your new go-to artist to set the mood.
