The best part of this collaboration between distorted noise poppers Sleigh Bells and up-and-coming Chicago emcee Tink is how unlikely it sounds on paper, but how totally seamless it sounds.
Given her previous work with LA R&B singer Kelela and DJ Dahi, Tink is a dream to collaborate with as a versatile singer-rapper double threat. She is quick to pick up on others’ cues and energy but still retains the confident tone of her prose. Evidently, when Sleigh Bells frontwoman Alexis Krauss showed Tink the instrumental for “That Did It” –an old forgotten song draft by the band–Tink wrote the first verse in a matter of minutes. And you can catch that swift, effervescent energy in her verse as Tink rattles off her credentials over Derek Miller’s barebones electric guitar riffage.
Krauss’s choral refrain, ‘The future isn’t bright; it’s blinding,” might as well be the catchphrase on Tink’s business card. She is about to blow up in a huge way, just watch.
