Music Geek Track Of The Day: ‘Sentimentalist’ by Sondre Lerche

Happy belated birthday, Sondre Lerche! You beautiful nerd, you…

The Brooklyn-based, Norwegian singer/songwriter (does that make him Brookwegian?) just turned 32 and he’s gifting us the second track from his new album, Please.

We like reading the above image as sort of an exhortation, like we are demanding more. More Sondre Lerche, Please! He has answered our pleas with his beautifully serene, yet whirling track, “Sentimentalist”.

“Sentimentalist” is a heartrending song that questions the depths and roots of someone’s love. Though it falls into the realm of dreamy pop-rock, it is by no means background  It’s floaty and effervescent. It makes you feel like you’ve had a bit too much of that magic soda from Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory, you know the one that makes you float? Right. That one.

This track is a lovely complement to his first, “Bad Law“, which he released a few months back. “Bad Law” is a much harsher, louder, and energizing listen, while “Sentimentalist” is a slightly slower, mind-warping ride. We  cannot wait for the full album release on September 23.

Enjoy the track and let us know what you think in the comments and at @NerdistMusic!
