Julianna Barwick has a very special place in my heart, and I mean that both in a squee way and a very anatomically precise way. Each layer of her vocal tracks on “Meet You At Midnight” evinces a really warm hum that starts deep in my chest, and as the track becomes simultaneously more miasmic and dense, that sensation makes its way outward toward my appendages. It is sort of like if getting goosebumps wasn’t only a peripheral feeling.
This track comes from Barwick’s Rosabi EP, which was released this week and is a nice addition to her already lush discography. I am hopeful that she is close to readying her followup to last year’s excellent Nepenthe, so I can wrap myself in a blanket, sit on a patch of grass and soundtrack that simple glory properly.
