Music Geek Track of the Day: ‘Lift Me Up’ by Nick Hakim

Let’s get this out of the way right off the bat–I am a member of the tribe. I celebrate Hannukah (#presents4dayzzz), I am uncoordinated as f-ck, and I was bar mitzvah-ed only a couple years after Drake (or A.D. in the parlance of our times). But when I listen to “Lift Me Up” by Nick Hakim, something very unusual and unprecedented happens.

I listen to this hushed, creaky and  unbelievably touching song from Nick Hakim and I feel like I am in church, though I have never been. I can close my eyes and I can see a crowd gathered in white clothing. Nick Hakim isn’t at the front–he is off to the side and everyone has there eyes closed to pay attention to him as earnestly as they can. It’s one of those moments where you aren’t exactly sure if what you are hearing could possibly be coming from a person on earth. It is too good. You sort of transcend space right along with him as each stroke of the piano land flush against your chest.

Really happy I get to listen to this song as much as I want, and hope you dudes enjoy it too.

I am also of the tribe – Chosen, if you will – and agree, this is lovely. What’s the background noise, though? I caught traffic, and birds, and some other clunking around… can’t tell if it was purposeful or not. Beautiful regardless.

    • Matt Grosinger says:

it sort of sounds like someone else is rocking in a chair and like the mic is on the far side of the piano
