Kyary Pamyu Pamyu, the queen of kawaii, has finally released a new track in the lead up to her forthcoming album Pika Pika Fantajin, which will drop July 29. “ãゃりーã±ã¿ã‚…ã±ã¿ã‚… – ãらãらã‚ラー” or “Kira Kira Killer” ー is a supremely bouyant and peppy song, the kind of fare we’ve come to expect from Pamyu Pamyu, but the visuals are interestingly toned down (Yeah I know right? But compared to the exploding neon of “Pon Pon Pon” this is relatively sane) with its geometrical black and white color schemes.
That is not to say the music video is boring, though. After I shared this song with our editor-in-chief, Brian Walton, he instantly and astutely pointed out, “This looks like a James Bond intro if someone was on many, many drugs.” He’s definitely not wrong. Watch below as Kyary Pamyu Pamyu gets pooped out by a giant virtual snake, masters the hoverboard from Back To The Future Part II, and dances around with an army of clones. What? Yup.

Love the nod to Terry Pratchett’s Discworld!!
Actually, Discworld’s construction is a nod to Greek and Babylonian mythology of several thousand years ago. I suspect the average Japanese citizen knows more about Greek mythology from school than about the works of Terry Pratchett.
mm no. Nowhere in either of those mythologies is a giant turtle carrying a disc world on the back of 4 giant elephants. Hindu mythology has had a world tortoise with the world on it’s back, but still no elephants. The one In this video is clearly a reference to discworld
