Music Geek Track of the Day: Kasabian Mashup The Sesame Street Theme and ‘Good Vibrations’

I bet you didn’t know that the theme song for Sesame Street followed the same chord progression as the Beach Boys’ most seminal track (and virtually every song in existence) But if you think about it, can’t you see our muppet friends heading on a psychedelic road trip to the beach to learn about surfing and harnessing their inner puppet chi? Let’s be real for a second: Cookie Monster has the most historically documented case of the munchies and Big Bird hallucinated the existence of his closest friend Mr. Snuffleupagus. Also, their names are already Burning Man playa names, though calling Big Bird “Big Burn” is a gimme. What I am saying is that these muppets are so ready for this totally tubular mashup maaaaaan.

Kasabian, the band behind this expert mashup, stopped by Australian radio station Triple J in August for their covers series, Like A Version (lol). Explaining their reason for combining the songs, the band gives an answer that could have appeared in a Sesame Street segment about honesty: “I’ll tell you what it is–there’s not enough verses in Sesame Street. There is only like two.” Hey, whatever gets the job done dudes, especially if it involves both surf rock and muppets, two things that are separately great but collaboratively rad.
