In September 2014, the incomparable Karen O released her solo album, Crush Songs, on Julian Casablancas’ label, Cult Records.
The 15-song collection was initially recorded between 2006 and 2007, when the Yeah Yeah Yeahs frontwoman was going through a particularly lovelorn phase in her life. In fact, she explains the LP’s premise with the following pearls of wisdom:
“When I was 27, I crushed a lot. I wasn’t sure I’d ever fall in love again. These songs were written + recorded in private around this time. They are the soundtrack to what was an ever continuing love crusade. I hope they keep you company on yours.”
Four months after the album’s initial release, Karen has released an official videoânay, a short filmâfor the song “Day Go By.”
Directed by Wiissaâthe creative brainchild of creative partners Vanessa Hollander and Wilson Philippe, a film and photography duo from Miamiâthe clip follows an incredibly attractive couple while they frolic in the sun and partake in romantic activities like riding bikes, kissing underwater, and picnicking on the beach.
When the singer uploaded a snippet of the film to her Instagram, she said it “brings summer loving to everyone who is braving a cold winters day.”
Though we’re not sure where the film was shot, it could very well serve as a welcome video for the California Chamber of Commerce. It’s that pretty… And if we didn’t already live in Los Angeles, we’d be checking airfares right now.
Sparse vocals combined with the nostalgic hue of the video really make the clip both modern and timeless, much like Karen O herself.
While it doesn’t look like Karen O has any solo tour dates set for this time, follow her on Twitter at @kareno for any/all future updates.
