Music Geek Track of the Day: ‘Golden House’ featuring Sarah Psalti by The Bilinda Butchers

The Bilinda Butchers, named after the guitarist/vocalist from beloved, touchstone shoegaze act My Bloody Valentine, are a dream pop trio from San Francisco who make very surreal soundscapes that make me think of how the sky looks on planet Namek.

“Golden House,” featuring Sarah Psalti on vocals, starts with an airy synth arpeggiation that sounds like it was definitely used by Tears for Fears at some point in their career, or at least was used during a brief interlude in Donnie Darko right before he had an encounter with that prescient, f–ked up looking rabbit dude. But that sort of altered, extraterrestrial state of consciousness is exactly the visual association this kind of dream pop should have. I honestly haven’t been this excited about the genre since Beach House’s Teen Dream, which came out about four years ago.

Keep an eye out for the groups debut album, Heaven, which drops July 15 via Orchid Tapes.
