Saint Pepsi is a vaporwave producer named Ryan DeRobertis who just reinvented himself by throwing a disco-ball on the ground and unleashing a f–king killer summer jam meant to soundtrack jumping through an old-school sprinkler on a sweltering day. This is a huge moment for the New York based producer as he breaks away from the scene with which he was most closely associated, lends his vocals to his work for the first time, all the while making it sound so effortless and undeniably re-playable.
“Fiona Coyne” takes its sonic cues from last year’s song-of-the-summer and leans heavily toward that same disco-era sound that is danceable and wedding-reception worthy. Yes, yes, Fiona Coyne is a character from the beloved, Drake-featuring show Degrassi, but the growing pains that show focused on are not remotely relevant to this fully formed, confident anthem.
