Muppet Mashups! Rowlf the Dog Laments Being “Just a Friend” To Biz Markie’s Classic Track

For reasons entirely unbeknownst to me (and seriously, if you know the answer, please hit me with it) Biz Markie a) is famous at all but also 2) his song “Just a Friend” is still getting played in certain circles. The 1989 “comedic” rap song features Biz lamenting a girl, named Blah Blah Blah apparently, he just met after a show having a “friend” and not copping to him being a boyfriend (aka “man”). This was a total one hit wonder and usually ranks well on lists of the best One Hit Wonders, due in no small part to the purposely(?) off key belting of the chorus, the lyrics of which are: “You got what I need. But you say he’s just a friend.” These are two totally unrelated thoughts. This woman has what he needs, but she’s also got a friend… I don’t see why this needs to be sung about six million times.

ANYWAY, I digress a million times…

The reason we’re talking about Mr. Markie’s hit song today is that YouTuber and purveyor of fine Muppet mashups, Mylo the Cat, has hit us with another hip hip puppet extravaganza. Mylo the Cat has taken clips of everybody’s favorite piano-playing pooch, Rowlf the Dog, and put “Just a Friend” underneath it. It’s surprisingly accurate. Take a look!

Mylo the Cat has done this a number of times, including putting the Beastie Boys’ “So What’cha Want” over Swedish Chef, Animal, and Beeker, and Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball” over, who else, Miss Piggy. It’s like the Muppets make everything great, even if it’s just looking at them while other pop music plays. They’re legends.

What do you think of Rowlf as Biz? What other Muppet Music Mashups do you think would work? Let us know in the comments below.

I really hope the author was writing in jest.  First of all, Biz Markie has had many hits.  Vapors (such a classic Snoop even covered it), Make the Music with your Mouth, Pickin Boogers, Nobody Beats the Biz…..  So I hope you were just being cheeky.  If not, you get the biggest SMH.
Back on track though, the mashup was done awesomely!

It saddens me that you don’t know Biz and put it down as a result. You must be a millennial. Nothing cool/funny/hip/noteworthy ever happened before you became socially aware circa 1990. We laughed our asses off at him in HS. Then again, I’m probably ancient to you.

He knows him.  Or at least he does now.  It doesn’t matter if he is a millennial or not because that song is perennial. And he admits to already knowing it well.’She has a man and a friend what’s the problem?’  They are not unrelated thoughts. The chick is playing it  dirty – sleazy like a sreroetypical ‘man’.  The only answer to the question of do you have man is Yes or No.The “I only have a friend” is playing game. That’s why Kyle doesn’t get it.Or he’s just playing the contrarian bc he had an article to write.
