MTV’s TEEN WOLF Renewed for Sixth Season, Rift Between Scott and Stiles Teased and More at SDCC

Calling all Teen Wolf fans! Following what seems to have become a tradition for the show at this point, it was revealed at San Diego Comic-Con this week that the series has been renewed for another season. This may come as a surprise for some considering the fact that we’re only three episodes deep into the fifth season. But, nonetheless, it was announced during the show’s SDCC panel (hosted by Kevin Smith) that the show would indeed be coming back for a sixth season. We also got a sneak peek at the rest of season which you can check out above.

Yes, I was as surprised as you are that the director of films like Tusk, Yogahosers, and Clerks III was hosting the panel, but it became apparent pretty quickly how big of a fan he was of the teen show, even admitting to crying while watching the show. After explaining his love for the series, and comparing the bromance factor to his own body of work, Smith brought out the star-studded panel, which consisted of Tyler Posey (Scott), Shelley Hennig (Malia), Dylan O’Brien (Stiles), Cody Christian (Theo), Dylan Sprayberry (Liam), and series creator Jeff Davis. Once everybody was up on stage, the cast presented Smith with his own custom-made Beacon Hills High School jersey to a round of cheers from the full auditorium.

Just look at the sheer satisfaction on that man’s face! After a warm hug, Smith jumped into the panel by asking Jeff Davis whether he thought they’d be doing five seasons (consisting of 70 episodes). After Tyler claims to have had no expectations but knew the show was great and wanted it to “go forever,” Jeff asked him if he wanted to do a few more seasons. When he replied “Yes, I would love to”, Jeff replied, “I think MTV does too, because they just ordered a sixth season!”

As far as the fifth season goes, they hinted that a rift between Scott and Stiles was on the way this season. Though they didn’t reveal what exactly was going to happen, they did say that it was going to happen at the beginning of episode 5, that it would threaten their relationship, and that Theo was going to use it to his advantage. Whatever it is, it sounds juicy.

Teen Wolf SDCC Holland

Other highlights of the panel included Dylan O’Brien and Tyler’s real-life bromance (they totally have sleepovers), Holland’s adventure ordering Domino’s Pizza while she was parked in a Ralph’s parking lot, lighthearted jokes about the fact that the show has two actors named Dylan (O’Brien and Sprayberry), and Tyler saying he’d flash everybody next time there was an awkward moment–which he never did, much to the dismay of the female audience.

We also got to hear both Shelley and Holland speak up about playing strong female characters, and inspiring young women all around the world. When Smith asked the girls their thoughts on the increase in stunts. Shelley responded, “for me I love it because I don’t get bored. There’s always something to rehearse or choreograph.” She continued, “and it just makes sense to me that girl’s are kick-ass.” She also added, “We’ve been given such a great platform to do that, and I think Jeff writes the best female characters.”

Probably one of the best parts of the panel however, was when Tyler Posey called Tyler Hoechlin and asked him whether or not he missed his character Derek. Though the first call didn’t go through, the actor called back and Tyer P. put his phone up next to the microphone so the whole room could hear his answers. His response: “I miss Derek very much.”. So, hopefully we see a comeback in the near future, but then again, who knows.
