Ever since Teen Wolf became a hit, MTV has been working double-time to create projects that walk the same genre-bending line, and their latest effort is a television adaptation of Wes Craven’s horror series, Scream. Last year the series was given a green-light for a pilot rumored to be directed by Wes Craven and will be written by Jill Blotevogel (Ravenswood, Harperâs Island, Eureka). Today, casting has begun for said pilot, and character descriptions have been made public, thanks to TV Line:
* Harper Duval: A 16-year-old beauty âwhoâs a little too introverted and intellectual to be a social butterflyâ but has nevertheless been annointed by the popular crowd to be one of their own. âShe feels guilty that she has drifted away from former best friend Audrey,â but at least sheâs got a Gilmore Girls-esque relationship with mom Maggie to keep her sane.
* Audrey Jesen: Haperâs former BFF is described as âthe bi-curious daughter of a Lutheran pastorâ whoâs âmore arresting-looking than pretty.â This âartsy lonerâ dreams of being a filmmaker and shares a close bond with tech genius Noah.
* Noah Foster: Audreyâs closest confidante is âcreative, brilliant and tech-savvy enough to be the next Steve Jobs.â Lucky for him, heâs got a great sense of humor (âa la John Cusack in his teen primeâ) that helps him navigate the halls of his high school. Whatâs more, Noah possesses âan encyclopedic knowledge of books, films, TV, apps, etc.â
* Margaret âMaggieâ Duval: Harperâs mom, in her early to mid-40s, is the townâs medical examiner, âa grown-up science geek who plays down her beauty.â Maggie spends a lot of her time trying to make up for the fact that Harperâs dad abandoned them. Oh, and sheâs harboring âa dark secret from her past.â
In addition that, TV Line writes that the pilot is based around “a YouTube video going viral, which will have adverse repercussions for teenager Audrey and seemingly serve as the ‘catalyst for a murder that opens up a window to [her] townâs troubled past.'”
This “YouTube video” connection has led some to believe this ties the series into the plot of Scream 4, which saw every murder being captured on camera by killer Jill Roberts.
Whatever the case may be, we should have faith in MTV that they will pull this off like they did with Teen Wolf. So don’t ready your pitch-forks just yet, people!
I’m in.
