MSU Marching Band Gets Heroic with MARVEL Halftime Show!

This past weekend, the Michigan State Spartans defeated the Michigan Wolverines 27-23 on the last play of the game. One could almost describe the effort as “super-heroic.”

Much like the Avengers before the Battle of New York, the Spartans “needed a push.” Rather than have one of their coaches stabbed through the heart by Loki, they turned to John T. Madden and the Michigan State marching band for inspiration.

Now, whether or not the band’s melodious tones were what gave the team that extra drive to win, they still put on a great halftime show nonetheless, performing a tribute to the Marvel Universe.

Starting off with the main theme from Guardians of the Galaxy, the band transitioned into Black Sabbath’s ‘Iron Man’ as a tribute to Tony Stark. After that, they moved into arguably one of the most iconic theme songs in superhero history – the Spider-Man theme from the 1967 cartoon. Following that, they moved back to Guardians for two more songs, ‘Hooked on a Feeling’ and ‘Ain’t No Mountain High Enough,’ showing us once again why Awesome Mix Vol. 1 was one of the best soundtracks of 2014. Closing out the concert was the main theme to The Avengers, in which they formed the “A” logo with absolute perfection (They also did Spider-Man’s mask, but not the webbing, so points off for laziness [Joke]).

So what do you think? Are there any Marvel themes MSU should have included, but didn’t? How do marching bands walk in formation while playing music look so easy? Let me know on Twitter or sound off in the comments below.
