Ms. Marvel Joins AVENGERS: SECRET WARS in New Animated Short

It’s extremely rare for a newly introduced superhero to have an immediate impact with Marvel fans, but Kamala Khan has come a long way in just a few years. As Ms. Marvel, Kamala became a breakout character in 2014 with the debut of her own ongoing series, and she went on to become a featured star of All-New, All-Different Avengers and the relaunch of Champions. While Kamala hasn’t made her debut in the MCU yet, her animated counterpart is set to play a big role in the new season of Avengers: Secret Wars.

Via IGN, Disney XD has debuted the first of six animated shorts that will lead up to the season premiere of Avengers: Secret Wars. It also happens to be the first-ever animated solo story for Ms. Marvel, who made her debut during Avengers: Ultron Revolution. That’s why Kamala is already a heroine in this short, although her hero worship for the Avengers bleeds into all aspects of her life. And while Kamala can deal with an evil super-powered toad, she has serious butterflies about taking her place among Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.

As glimpsed in the video, the new team of Avengers will also include Captain Marvel, Black Panther, Vision, Ant-Man and the Wasp. In fact, it’s Black Panther who brings these heroes together to save the original Avengers from the Leader and his new Cabal. But it may take some time to get Iron Man back, since he was trapped in another dimension last season.

This short has an ending that feels abrupt, but it may lead directly into the five remaining shorts. And if this video is any indication, Ms. Marvel may be one of the main POV characters for the new season. We’ll get to see Ms. Marvel and her new teammates in action when Avengers: Secret Wars hits Disney XD on Saturday, July 17 with two back-to-back episodes.
