MR. ROBOT Creator Sam Esmail’s AMA Confirms Soundtrack Release and More

Note: This post contains spoilers for season 1 of USA Network’s Mr. Robot. Proceed with Caution.

Now that the debut season of Mr. Robot is done and over with, we have a lot to sit and ponder. First and foremost: where the heck is Tyrell Wellick? Despite our protagonist’s life being a complete mess at the moment thanks to his mental illness, Elliot’s main concern throughout the final episode was finding out what happened to the ex E Corp. employee. I highly doubt he’s dead, considering how spectacular Martin Wallström was in the role. But with Elliot’s memory a wreck at the moment, it’s hard to say what happened. The other thing that’s generated a lot of attention was the mysterious knock on the door before the credits rolled. Theories are running rampant at the moment, with people suggesting that it might be Tyrell, Mr. Robot, White Rose, Joanna, or even Shayla’s ghost, to name a few.

Following the finale, creator Sam Esmail took to Reddit to do a fan AMA. While he remained tight lipped on the questions posed above, he did give us a few tidbits to hold on to while we await season 2’s premiere. Along with revealing the news that we will be getting an official Mr. Robot soundtrack in the near future, he hinted at another project related to the show, and touched on whether Christian Slater would return next season. Want to know more? Keep on reading.

Tyrell's Mistake MR Robot

What continues to be one of the most intriguing things about the show is how well it lines up with current events. From hacks that have happened in real life to the unfortunate moment in the season finale that called for it to be postponed a week because it was reminiscent of last week’s tragic on-air shooting, Mr. Robot keeps matching up to things going on in the real world. It was the Ashley Madison bit in particular that had a lot of people talking.

When one fan asked when the team put the AM bit in, and whether it was difficult to do it so close to air time, Esmail responded:
Another aspect of the show that people have been praising is the fantastic soundtrack. Episode 10 alone featured selections from the Alabama Shakes, Time Zone, and even The Jim Carroll Band. In addition to revealing that he was the one behind picking the majority of the featured songs, Esmail also answered one fan’s question about whether we’d see a soundtrack of the show with the following:

Mr Robot Mirroring FEAT

Now that we know the truth about Mr. Robot, the question on a lot of people’s minds has been: “Will Christian Slater return next season?” Though it is an understandable question, especially with Darlene and Angela trying to get him back on his medication, I would like to point out that the show is called Mr. Robot. It would be hard to do the show without him.

Esmail calmed nervous Slater fans’ fears by saying:

The toughest part about reaching a season finale is obviously waiting for the next season. One curious fan asked Esmail whether he had other forms of media, like a comic book, planned to tide us over in the meantime.

Without giving out too many details, Esmail stated:

Another thing that’s been floating around since the show was announced was that Esmail has plans for a five season arc. One of the things that a lot of people are wondering about is whether the show’s popularity will make the director consider doing more seasons.   On this particular topic, Esmail noted:

There you have it, folks. Though Esmail is keeping actual plot details close to the chest for now, we learned a couple of interesting things about the show. What did you think of the finale?
