Movie Morsels: VENOM Details, STAR WARS: EPISODE VII Leaks, RAMBO Gets a Title, and More

Many Bothan spies died to bring you today’s Movie Morsels, so you’d better treasure each and every one as if it were your own. To kickstart your Thursday morning, we’ve got juicy tidbits about everything from Sony’s Venom movie to some news from a galaxy far, far away to the latest on yet another Rambo movie and much more. So, kick back, relax, and let the Movie Morsels flow through you.

Venom

We know very little about Sony’s forthcoming Venom movie other than that it’s coming in 2017 and will be titled Venom Carnage, but thankfully Alex Kurtzman was able to shed a little more light on what we can expect from the psychotic symbiotes coming to Sony’s Spider-verse.

“Well, Venom is sort of the flip side in that there are certain lines that Spider-Man won’t cross because he’s Peter Parker and Peter Parker will only do certain things and Venom is an entirely different character.”

Kurtzman elaborated on how crossing certain lines will affect the film’s tone.

“Venom, in a weird way, is the representation of every line that will get crossed. He’s a much darker character. I wouldn’t even really say more complicated because I think they’re both very complicated characters, but I think the attraction for me to Venom is the idea that you can do things that you can’t do with Spider-Man.” [Collider]

Star Wars: Episode VII

J.J. Abrams blew up the Twittersphere with a tweet about the Apple Watch that contained a delightful little Easter egg in the background in the form of Imperial lighting design that was previously seen in…you guessed it – the Death Star! Now whether that teases another Death Star or simply the return of the Empire is a matter for discussion, but that wasn’t the only reveal to emerge yesterday.

British pilots from an aviation school also accidentally uncovered a certain ship being built in southern England… [Nerdist]

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay

As we learned from Tropic Thunder, you never go full retard, but when it comes to the dystopian future of The Hunger Games, going full Mockingjay is perfectly acceptable. New posters show Katniss looking fly as hell and ready to take the fight to President Snow. [Nerdist]

Inherent Vice

One of the most highly anticipated films of the fall, P.T. Anderson’s Inherent Vice, finally has footage and we couldn’t be more excited. The footage emerged as part of a trailer for the upcoming New York Film Festival where Inherent Vice will make its world premiere. Based on Thomas Pynchon’s novel of the same name, the film follows Larry “Doc” Sportello (Joaquin Phoenix) as a private investigator in 1970s LA as he tries to figure out what happened to his missing ex-girlfriend and her wealthy developer boyfriend. Rambo: Last Blood

Because seeing a 68-year-old action hero is exactly what America wants, right? In spite of all logic, Sylvester Stallone is following up 2008’s Rambo with another entry in the storied Rambo series. Back in June it was rumored that work had begun on yet another Rambo film, and news has emerged that Stallone will both direct and star in the new film, titled Rambo: Last Blood. Little else is known about it at the time, save for the fact that back in 2009 a rumored synopsis hinted that Stallone would be adapting James Byron Huggin’s novel Hunter. Here’s hoping that this is well and truly the last blood. [ComingSoon]

The Maze Runner

For a book poised to be the next YA smash hit, The Maze Runner seems to be jogging just under the radar. While I didn’t exactly love the book, there’s some real potential in them thar hills and these six new clips ought to help stoke the flames of excitement. [io9]

Captain America: The Winter Soldier

The Russo Brothers have been making the rounds in support of Captain America: The Winter Soldier coming out on Blu-ray, but the thing that has us most excited might just be this new blooper reel.

In case you’re still on the fence as to whether you should buy it or not, check out Kyle Anderson’s Blu-ray review.

Ted 2

First he did The Electric Company. Then he did Shawshank Redemption. Then he did the Nerdist Podcast. And now, Morgan Freeman is preparing for his toughest role yet: Ted 2. Freeman will be playing an iconic civil rights lawyer who helps Ted get out of a sticky legal situation. Because nothing goes better together than Seth MacFarlane and civil rights. [Slashfilm]

Top Five

Chris Rock is, thankfully, moving past the brainless cash grabs of Grown Ups movies and tackling some heartier fare with Top Five. The film, which made a big splash at the Toronto International Film Festival, marks Rock’s third time in the director’s chair, and follows a former stand up comedian who finds himself at a major turning point in his life. It evidently attracted the interest of a bunch of distributors, but in a press release today it was revealed that Paramount had won the bidding war. $12.5 million later, Top Five has a distributor for the film that Rock also wrote and stars in alongside Rosario Dawson.

I’m totally up for a new Rambo, especially a real good final chapter (which Stallone can totally do – just look at Rocky’s final film). Hopefully this has nothing to do with the Rambo: Savage Hunt script though – that script where Rambo + new young guys take on a group of human-animal hybrid soldiers is far too crazy a note to send Rambo off on………… Though I would love to see it; Stallone should repackage that script as a sci-fi film, hand it to Vin Diesel, and produce another Riddick movie with him — I’d love to see THAT R-name character take on hybrid super soldiers with a small group of mercs who don’t survive the movie 😀
