Happy Friday, everyone! Let’s see this week off with some piping-hot fresh rumors about Daisy Ridley’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens character. Then we’ll enjoy some tasty updates on Man of Steel 2, Furious 8, and Daniel Craig’s future as James Bond. Finally, we’ll top the whole thing off with a dessert consisting of new Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 2 photos. Bon Appetit!
Star Wars: The Force Awakens
Move along to the next Morsel below if you want to remain spoiler-free for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. We have some new rumors, and while they could prove to be nothing more than rumors, it’s much better to be safe than sorry…
*****You’ve been warned!*****
Still with us? Okay, we have some info about the character of Rey’s backstory in J.J. Abrams’ upcoming continuation of George Lucas’s space saga. Here’s what Making Star Wars has to say:
- âReyâ is a pseudonym used by the hero in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
- âReyâ was dropped off on Jakku by her parents.
- “Reyâ doesnât leave Jakku because sheâs waiting for her parents to return. Should she leave, they may never find her.
- Her life on Jakku, living inside an AT-AT-turned-home makes Lukeâs life on Tatooine look suburban and luxurious.
Starring Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Domhnall Gleeson, Lupita Nyong’o, Gwendoline Christie, and the returning Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, and Carrie Fisher, Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens everywhere in 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D on December 18th.
Man of Steel 2
Sorry, Superman fans. Mad Max: Fury Road genius George Miller will most likely not be directing the sequel to Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel. The Australian auteur has remarked, “I hope the next film I make is a very small film without any special effects and not many stunts.”
Furious 8
Vin Diesel recently hinted that he may want to direct the next Fast & Furious movie himself, but word is that Universal executives are balking at the idea. So instead Diesel is nominating the director who started the entire franchise in the first place, Rob Cohen, claiming that his friend, the late Paul Walker, wanted it that way.
“There has always been,” says Diesel on Facebook (where he posted a photo of him and Walker with Cohen), “the desire by Paul to have Rob direct one more, this is what fueled my campaign⦠I believe that he can and would reset the franchise nicely, returning to what was the core of the film in the beginning⦠racing. He would also handle the Brian Oâconnor issue with integrity, given that he and David Ayer were the ones who initially created that beloved character in the first place.”
Meanwhile, the studio reportedly wants Ericson Core (the Point Break reboot director) or Louis Leterrier to take the helm. To be continued…
SPECTRE
In other undecided news Daniel Craig does his best to contain the recent buzz that he’s ready to quit being 007 in a new interview with Britain’s Daily Mail. The actor states, “Iâm contracted for one more â but Iâm not going to make predictions.” In the meantime, we can still look forward to seeing Craig as Bond in SPECTRE, directed by the returning Sam Mendes. The film arrives on November 6th, and co-stars Christoph Waltz, Léa Seydoux, Ben Whishaw, Naomie Harris, Dave Bautista, Monica Bellucci, Ralph Fiennes, Andrew Scott, and Rory Kinnear.
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 2
Last but by no means least this week, the first clip from the fourth and final Hunger Games movie, with Jennifer Lawrence picking up bow and arrow one last time as Katniss Everdeen, has landed on Fandango. Sorry, we can’t show it to you here, it’s non-embeddable. We can, however, show you some new photos from the film:
Directed by Francis Lawrence and co-starring Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Julianne Moore, Sam Claflin, Jena Malone, Willow Shields, Natalie Dormer, Robert Knepper, Philip Seymour Hoffman (in his final film role), and Donald Sutherland, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 2 debuts on November 20th.
