Welcome back to Movie Morsels, film fans! In today’s exciting edition of all the top movie news from around the web, we’ve got updates on that Star Trek 3 reunion rumor, the skinny on whether you’ll see Xenomorphs in Prometheus 2, Oscar Isaac talking about Star Wars: Episode VII, a deeper look at Interstellar, and much, much more!

Star Trek 3

Remember that rumor about a possible William Shatner/Leonard Nimoy reunion in Star Trek 3? Well, it’s likely just a rumor after all. Roberto Orci responded to the news on TrekMovie.com:

“Not in my interest to confirm or deny anything because it limits my options while maintaining integrity as a truth teller. The movie is not the movie till the it is in the theater. Until then, everything is a rumor.”

Shatner himself took a break from filming Priceline commercials to sound off on Twitter:

“Let’s talk ST. I don’t know anything about the current gossip. Nobody has contacted me. Right now it’s just rhetoric to cause hype.”

Well, I can’t imagine that this comes as a surprise to anyone, but here’s hoping that we’ll get the Star Trek movie we deserve for the series’ fiftieth anniversary. [Collider]

Star Wars: Episode VII

While we eagerly await the next major leak from J.J. Abrams and his film set in a galaxy far, far away, we have some updates courtesy of star Oscar Isaac. In a recent interview, the man they called Llewyn Davis talked about the film’s script:

“I’m constantly looking for a cheesy line to say to harken back to the old ones. What they’re trying to do and what’s really great is J.J.’s been loosening it up a little bit and trying to make it alive and energized. It’s not formal. They’re messy, energized people. We’ve all intentionally tried to do that. Just make it a little more fiery and messy.”

Isaac also remarked on the experience of actually being on set and filming Star Wars:

“There’s a lot of enthusiasm [on the set] and it’s being done with a lot of heart. There’s nothing cynical about the way we’re doing this. Even in the way he’s shooting it — he’s shooting on film and actually building the sets, so you’ve got hundreds of Stormtroopers or whatever, and hundreds of extras and all the ships. You actually see it. It’s all real.”

And as for the endless stream of leaks and the hunger for spoilers, Isaac had this to say:

“People want to know all those special things and when those iconic moments are going to happen, but if all that gets revealed beforehand I feel like it robs people of that moment when they’re sitting there watching it for the first time.”

Prometheus 2

Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender’s decapitated android head will be back in Prometheus 2, but don’t expect to see any Xenomorphs. In an interview with Yahoo Movies UK, Ridley Scott confirmed their absence:

“The beast is done. Cooked. I got lucky meeting Giger all those years ago. It’s very hard to repeat that. I just happen to be the one who forced it through because they said it’s obscene. They didn’t want to do it and I said, ‘I want to do it, it’s fantastic’. But after four [he has conveniently forgotten the ‘AvP’ movies], I think it wears out a little bit. There’s only so much snarling you can do. I think you’ve got to come back with something more interesting. And I think we’ve found the next step. I thought the Engineers were quite a good start.

So, that’s a hard no on Xenomorphs, but a hard maybe on those pasty white musclebound Engineers. Take that as you will because we won’t be seeing this movie anytime soon. [io9]

Interstellar

Quick! Grab someone and ask them what their most anticipated movie of the fall is! Chances are that they said Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar. Well, we got a look at 5 new images of the beautiful-looking sci-fi flick, and stars Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway sounded off on what to expect.

McConaughey described the film like this:

“This is the grandest adventure I think any of us will ever see on film… This is the biggest film I’ve ever been a part of. This is one of the biggest films anyone’s ever been a part of.”

Anne Hathaway also had glowing things to say:

“It’s not a dry, science-based film. It has a pulse. It’s got blood in its veins.”

Yeah, yeah, that’s all well and good, but is it November 7 yet? [Empire]

Gone Girl

David Fincher’s Gone Girl is right around the corner, you guys! We have a brand new clip featuring Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike having a meet-cute:

And there’s a new TV spot, to boot!

While I don’t know if Ben Affleck did it or not, I am definitely guilty of desperately wanting to see this film. [The Playlist]

Transformers 5

This summer brought with it the excessively long fourth iteration of Michael Bay’s Transformers franchise, Transformers: Age of Extinction, and many have presumed it would be his last. However, as development gears up on Transformers 5, it seems that not every one is keen to see Bay leave, least of all Optimus Prime. Peter Cullen made his feelings known in a recent interview:

“I have a great deal of respect for him. He generates a great deal of excitement and energy. He’s really a hands-on director. My son is a stunt man and worked in Chicago doing a lot of the driving sequences… he said he’s a very, very diligent, hands-on guy. He creates a great deal of energy and puts everybody on their toes. I would certainly miss him. I think he’s brilliant, his mind is unbelievable.

“Michael if you’re [reading] this, I certainly hope you are coming back.”

Michael, if you’re reading this, please go make Bad Boys 3 instead. It’s the sequel the world needs right now. [Screen Rant]

Ted 2

Evidently Morgan Freeman and Dennis Haysbert weren’t enough for Seth MacFarlane’s Ted 2. News has broken that none other than Liam Neeson will be joining the cast too. Little else is known about his role, but honestly Liam Neeson’s presence alone should be news enough as far as Ted 2. [ComingSoon]

Frankenstein

You know what the world needs? A reboot of Frankenstein set in modern Los Angeles starring Twilight‘s Xavier Samuel as Frankenstein’s monster! Oh, and Candyman director Bernard Rose can direct it! Danny Huston and Carrie-Anne Moss can play Victor and Elizabeth Frankenstein! Sound good? Because that’s exactly what’s happening in yet another upcoming Frankenstein-themed feature film adaptation coming down the pipeline. [AVClub]

We’ll Always Have Paris

After making the rounds on the festival circuit, We’ll Never Have Paris, the directorial debut of The Big Bang Theory‘s Simon Helberg, has a distributor. Orion Releasing will be releasing the film in the US on January 22 for a limited theatrical run in advance of a premium VOD release. Based on Helberg’s real-life love story with his wife Jocelyn Towne, who co-directed, the film follows a neurotic man who mucks up his love life after leaving his girlfriend for an attractive co-worker before following his ex-girlfriend to Paris to win her back. Considering our resident rom-com expert Brian Walton won’t stop talking about it, this is very good news for fans of true love on the big screen. [Deadline]

All Quiet on the Western Front

Remakes are all the rage in Hollywood these days, but at least they had the decency to wait 84 years before trying to remake the Oscar-winning All Quiet on the Western Front. Okay, technically Richard Thomas and Ernest Borgnine starred in a TV movie version in 1979, but you get the picture. As it turns out, The November Man director Roger Donaldson is set to helm a remake of Erich Maria Remarque’s iconic novel about a young German soldier in the trenches of World War I. I’m not sure the world needs this movie, but who am I to question the development departments that be? [Slashfilm]
