Movie Morsels: New X-MEN: APOCALYPSE Set Pics and ALIEN: COVENANT Cast Members

Based on the amount of care that Bryan Singer is putting into X-Men: Apocalypse, I’d say it stands a good chance of being the best movie yet about Marvel Comics’ merry band of mutants (Ivan Ooze makeup aside)… Also in today’s Movie Morsels, we have the latest on Kong: Skull Island, Alien: Covenant, Zootopia, and more!

X-Men: Apocalypse

I’m especially excited for Bryan Singer’s fourth X-Men movie because each of the mutant movies he’s directed has been better that the one before it. But it looks like Singer’s work on X-Men: Apocalypse isn’t done just yet. The filmmaker’s back in Montreal this week to shoot a couple of pick-up shots, in several different environments that I’d guess Storm may have had a hand in creating. Check out the photos and video he’s sharing from the set…

Apocalypse comes out on May 27, and stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Oscar Isaac, Nicholas Hoult, Rose Byrne, Tye Sheridan, Sophie Turner, Olivia Munn and Lucas Till.

Kong: Skull Island

Skull Island

Good for you, Kong: Skull Island! You haven’t even opened yet and you’re already getting an attraction at Universal Studios Orlando. Skull Island: Reign of Kong will soon join the theme park’s Islands of Adventure in anticipation of the film’s March 10 release.

Alien: Covenant

Alien 1

Even more casting announcements for Alien: Covenant today, as actors Billy Crudup, Jussie Smollett, Amy Seimetz, Carmen Ejogo, and Callie Hernandez are joining Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston, Demian Bichir and Danny McBride on the film, which starts shooting next month. Seimetz in particular is a darling of the indie horror scene, having starred in many a picture we’ve seen in midnight programming at festivals over the years… Ridley Scott’s Prometheus sequel/Alien prequel opens on October 6, 2017.

Zootopia

Because watching too many Zootopia clips is like eating too many ice cream sundaes—an IMPOSSIBILITY—we proudly present the latest look at Disney’s next animated epic, arriving on March 4. This one features YouTube personality Zach King as a wacky, wacky wolf…

Captain Nemo

20000 Leagues

Wondering what James Mangold will get up to after he’s done directing the third Wolverine solo film? (In the wake of Deadpool‘s success, Hugh Jackman’s final go with the claws is expected to earn an R rating.) Director Mangold has just signed on to helm Disney’s Captain Nemo, a prequel/origin story about the mad genius and scourge of the seven seas, introduced in Jules Verne’s seminal adventure novel 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. (Itself famously adapted by Disney in the 1950s.)

Patriots Day

J.K. Simmons

Finally this week… One of our favorite living character actors, Oscar winner J.K. Simmons, has joined the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing film Patriots Day. Mark Wahlberg stars in the Peter Berg-helmed picture, which begins shooting next month in the city where the tragedy occurred.
