Jurassic Word 2

Jurassic World

Director Colin Trevorrow has a few words to say about what we can expect from the sequel to his blockbuster Jurassic World. Do not expect to see it take place on an island, and InGen won’t be the only entity making dinosaurs to devour hapless humans…

“[It will not be] just a bunch of dinosaurs chasing people on an island,” say Trevorrow. “That’ll get old real fast.”

“I feel like the idea that this isn’t always going to be limited to theme parks, and there are applications for this science that reach far beyond entertainment. And when you look back at nuclear power and how that started, the first instinct was to weaponise it and later on we found it could be used for energy.”

“And this isn’t something necessarily that was in the book but is a seed that I wanted to plant in this movie, is that might be able to grow in more of these movies if they decide to make more of them, is: What if this went open source? It’s almost like InGen is Mac, but what if PC gets their hands on it? What if there are 15 different entities around the world who can make a dinosaur?”

“And Dr Wu says in the film, when he’s warning Dr Mesrani, ‘we’re not always going to be the only ones who can make a dinosaur’. I think that’s an interesting idea that even if we don’t explore fully in this film, there is room for this universe to expand. I shouldn’t use the word universe, because people will think we’re making a Jurassic World universe — we’re not.”

Jurassic World 2
(or Jurassic Park 5, depending on how you do the math) arrives in June 2018.

Prometheus 2

You say Ridley Scott’s Prometheus wasn’t your cup of tea? The filmmaker is hoping you’ll feel differently about its sequel, which will start shooting in January 2016, when Scott will also oversee production on Neill Blomkamp’s Alien 5 in order to “keep the film series’ mythology from contradicting.” Scott has promised a “a fresher form of alien” this time around. Here’s hoping.

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter

Resident Evil

If you missed Ali Larter in the last installment of Sony/Screen Gems’ Resident Evil film franchise, take heart. The actress will be back for the sixth movie in the saga, Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, again written and directed by Paul W.S. Anderson and starring Milla Jovovich. Shooting on the film, which will closely follow the events of Resident Evil: Retribution, begins in September in South Africa.

Hitman: Agent 47

And speaking of video-game adaptations… We’ve got a little more info about Zachary Quinto’s “John Smith” character in Hitman: Agent 47, thanks to the film’s latest featurette. Directed by Aleksander Bach and also starring Rupert Friend, Hannah Ware, Zachary Quinto, Ciarán Hinds, Thomas Kretschmann, and Angelababy, Hitman: Agent 47 takes aim on August 21st.

PEZ Movie

PEZ

Eh, after Battleship we knew it was just a matter of time. Envision Media Arts is partnering with PEZ Candy Inc. to make an animated film inspired by the portable dispensers. Cameron Fay (The Three Stooges Movie, Brother In Law) is scripting. That Pop-Tarts movie is so close I can taste it…
