Jurassic World
There’s more mischief afoot in Jurassic World in the second TV spot for director Colin Trevorrow’s franchise restarter, and it has us hoping to be carried off by a dimorphodon (or pteranodon, if you’re so inclined), when our next trip to Isla Nublar — with tour guides Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard — departs on June 12th.

Suicide Squad
Our first look at Gotham City’s Arkham Asylum in next year’s Suicide Squad is, admittedly, a pretty small one. But as director David Ayer says in his tweet, “every detail matters.” The first big screen mission for DC’s supervillain team supreme — co-starring Will Smith, Margot Robie, and Jared Leto — debuts on August 5, 2016.

Terminator: Genisys
We’ve seen footage of stars Emilia Clarke and Arnold Schwarzenegger in the upcoming Terminator: Genisys, and now we’ve got a good look at J.K. Simmons’ Detective O’Brien in action. The newly minted Academy Award winner (playing a reportedly much friendlier fellow than he did in Whiplash) is featured prominently in the UK trailer. Director Alan Taylor’s film lands on July 1st.
Transformers 5
Sequels are so last millennium, aren’t they? These days, it’s all about cinematic universes. So Paramount, taking its cue from Disney’s multi-tiered Marvel and Star Wars franchises, is hoping to develop a series of Transformers spinoff films, as well as the fifth entry in the franchise (after last year’s Transformers: Age of Extinction). The studio has asked screenwriter Akiva Goldsman to develop (God help us) a “writer’s room” with director Michael Bay, executive producer Steven Spielberg and producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura.

Beauty and the Beast
Disney’s live-action Beauty and the Beast has expanded its roster of stars yet again. Joining Emma Watson, Luke Evans, Josh Gad, Dan Stevens, Emma Thompson, and Kevin Kline will be Audra McDonald. The Tony Award winner (pictured above in TV’s Private Practice) will put her acclaimed pipes to use as the Prince’s lady-in-waiting Garderobe (French for wardrobe), who’s featured in the “Be Our Guest” and “Human Again” musical numbers. Director Bill Condon’s adaptation of the animated favorite arrives on March 17, 2017.
2001: A Space Odyssey
Well now, this is cool. As some of you already know, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is about to build a movie museum near its Los Angeles headquarters. And it’s just acquired a very important part of science-fiction movie history — the model of the Aries 1B Trans-Lunar Space Shuttle from Stanley Kubrick’s immortal 2001: A Space Odyssey. The famously controlling Kubrick had most of the film’s models destroyed so they wouldn’t show up in other productions (like the props from sci-fi films like Forbidden Planet). But its 32-inch tall shuttle was acquired by a school teacher in 1975 for educational purposes. The Academy picked it up at auction for a reported 344 thousand dollars. We can’t wait to see it in its new home here in LA.
