The makers of the new Poltergeist know what scares you: creepy-ass clowns! Baby Driver

The Fault in Our Stars tulips

Hope you like Insurgent and Fault in Our Stars actor Ansel Elgort, because you’re likely to see a lot more of the twenty-one-year-old in the days ahead. Elgort has just signed on to star in Edgar Wright’s first post-Cornetto Trilogy film, the actioner Baby Driver, about “a talented, young getaway driver who relies on the beat of his personal soundtrack to be the best in the game. After being coerced into working for a crime boss, he must face the music when a doomed heist threatens his life, love and freedom.” Elgort’s a charismatic enough performer. Here’s hoping Wright pulls even more personality out of him.

The Belco Experiment

The Belco Experiment

Despite directing one of the biggest family-friendly films in recent years, Guardians of the Galaxy helmer James Gunn is in no way abandoning his horror roots. The filmmaker has announced via Facebook that he’s written the script for the horror thriller The Belco Experiment, which will be directed by Greg McLean (whose Wolf Creek is one of the most non-family friendly films in recent years.)

“I’m incredibly excited,” says Gunn, “to announce that we’re commencing production on a new film, The Belco Experiment, from my own script. The story revolves around the American Belco company in South America which is mysteriously sealed off at the beginning of a work day, and its employees are ordered to kill each other or be killed themselves. This starts an escalation of violence, where we discover the true nature of each and every Belco employee.”

“It’s a film that first came to me in a dream, and I woke up and wrote the first draft in a two-week fugue state binge… [It] has the heart and humor my films have all had, [but] it is also the most intense and uncompromising script I’ve ever written.”

Regarding McLean, Gunn says, “I don’t know if I’ve ever related to another filmmaker’s sense of aesthetics and love of film more.”

High praise for the man whose work the late Roger Ebert called “a sadistic celebration of pain and cruelty.” The Belco Experiment will start shooting in June in Bogota, Colombia.

Why, Hugh Jackman, is there nothing you can’t do? The Aussie singer-dancer-actor-mutant (who recently announced that the third Wolverine solo film will mark the last time he plays his signature film role) will get religion when he stars as Apostle Paul, about the New Testament martyr. Jackman will produce the film with fellow thesps Matt Damon and Ben Affleck.
