Movie Morsels: Marvel’s SPIDER-MAN Reboot to Get IMAX Release

It’s Hump Day, folks! Now that you’ve broken the back of this work week, won’t you congratulate yourself with today’s Movie Morsels? We’ve got the latest on the next Spider-Man film, new photos Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Deadpool, a new teaser for Finding Dory, and more!

Spider-Man

Spider-Man

Walloping websnappers! Disney and Sony aren’t taking any chances when it comes to integrating Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The webhead’s next solo outing will arrive on July 7, 2017, featuring fresh grist for the mill, er, new star Tom Holland. And Sony has just announced the Jon Watts-directed film will get an IMAX release.

“There’s so much about Spider-Man — including the web-slinging action – that lends itself perfectly to the Imax screen,” says Sony’s marketing-distribution president Josh Greenstein. “We are confident that audiences everywhere around the world will want to see it in Imax.”

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

Hot on the heels of Empire‘s revelation yesterday that Darkseid may well be a presence in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the magazine’s latest issue has released a bunch of new images from the upcoming film. Empire also offers hi-res versions of the recent pics we’ve seen, as well as two exclusive covers featuring the Man of Steel and the Dark Knight, as embodied by Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck…

Deadpool

Not to be outdone in the new superhero stills department, Deadpool has just released a photo of the Merc with a Mouth… unmasked! Like most of the pics we’ve seen from the Tim Miller-directed film, this one comes from star Ryan Reynolds on Twitter. Wade Wilson’s first big-screen solo outing, opening on February 12, co-stars Morena Baccarin, Ed Skrein, T. J. Miller, Gina Carano, Brianna Hildebrand, Stefan Kapičić, and Leslie Uggams.

Fast 8

Fast and Furious

Not only do we have confirmation today that the next Fast and Furious film—the title of which was recently revealed to be Fast 8 by star Vin Diesel—will shoot in Iceland, but that it will blow a sizable hole in its glacier-strewn landscape. The movie will be partly shot in the town of Akranes, approximately 28 miles north of Reykjavík. According to Icelandic media outlet Visir, “the crew has plans to carry out the largest explosion ever in Iceland.” Wicked.

Finding Dory

Finally today, it’s our latest teaser from Finding Dory. Pixar’s sequel to its 2003 hit Finding Nemo (and director Andrew Stanton’s penance after helming Disney’s 2012 megabomb John Carter) will arrive on June 17, and will again feature the voices of Ellen DeGeneres, Albert Brooks, and Willem Dafoe, as well as those of newcomers Hayden Rolence, Diane Keaton, Eugene Levy, Ty Burrell, Kaitlin Olson, Ed O’Neill, Vicki Lewis, and Dominic West.
