Movie Morsels: Mads Mikkelsen on His STAR WARS: ROGUE ONE Character

On today’s menu, we have some new clues on who Hannibal star Mads Mikkelsen will be playing in the upcoming Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One. There’s also new evidence that Warner Bros.’ next Superman standalone film may not actually happen after all. Plus, we have word that the Fast & Furious: Supercharged attraction is going to Universal Studios Orlando, the latest on the next projects from Kurt Russell and Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials director Wes Ball, and… a rated-R home video release of the final Hobbit film?!

Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One

Hannibal

Given his performances in Casino Royale and TV’s Hannibal (pictured above), many were expecting Mads Mikkelsen to play a villain in the first ever Star Wars spinoff film, director Gareth Edwards’ Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One. But in a new interview with Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet, the actor reveals he’ll not only be playing a hero in the film, but that he has a “very important role.” (He also mentioned the film will shoot for three months in Iceland and England.) As we mentioned before, it’s entirely possible Mikkelsen could be playing Luke Skywalker’s boyhood friend Biggs Darklighter. In any case, Rogue One will also star Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Riz Ahmed, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, Forest Whitaker, and Alan Tudyk. The film opens December 16, 2016.

Man of Steel 2

Man of Steel

After learning that George Miller is in discussions with Warner Bros. to direct Man of Steel 2, we now hear that the director is actually discussing the possibility of directing any one of their upcoming superhero films set within the DC Universe; and that Man of Steel 2, which has yet to be scheduled for release, may be on “permanent hold.” If so, it’s not entirely surprising, since the reaction from audiences and critics to the first Man of Steel was decidedly mixed.

Fast and the Furious

fast and furious

If you’re a Fast & Furious fan living on the east coast and praying that Universal Studios Orlando would get the Fast & Furious: Supercharged attraction that recently opened at the studio’s Hollywood theme park, your prayers have been answered. Fast & Furious: Supercharged comes to Florida in 2017. To clear space for it, Disaster: A Major Motion Picture Starring You! and the Beetlejuice Graveyard Revue will close permanently at the Orlando park on September 8th.

But one day his love disappears, and he must set out to find her. He will once again have to face the creatures of Jotunheim and the powerful Aesir. Suddenly, the man he thought he had buried deep down inside has risen to the surface once more…and he comes seeking vengeance.”

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies

The Hobbit

Sauron has won… After turning J.R.R. Tolkien’s simple children’s novel into three overlong, epic CGI-abundant films, Peter Jackson will apparently make the extended edition of his final Hobbit movie, The Battle of the Five Armies, rated R. The film will run twenty minutes longer than its theatrical release and sport nine hours of extras. The digital version will be available on October 20th while the DVD and Blu-ray versions will street on November 17th.
