Movie Morsels: Information About BLADE RUNNER 2 Production Revealed

I don’t know about you folks, but there’s nothing I like better than awaking to the latest image from Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which is just what we’ve got in today’s Movie Morsels, along with news on the film’s official art book! Also, the latest on Blade Runner 2, new clips from The Martian and Amber Heard’s latest, and the announcement of Jeepers Creepers 3!

Blade Runner 2

Blade-runner-2-1

While the sequel to Ridley Scott’s classic Blade Runner continues to cause worry to fans still hurting from Scott’s Alien prequel Prometheus, its director is speaking out to assure them that it will not strip away the narrative ambiguity that contributes to the original film’s perfection.

Denis Villeneuve (who helmed the upcoming Emily Blunt-starrer Sicario) says, “The thing I must say is that I love mystery. I love shadows. I love doubts. I would just want to say to the fans that we will take care of that mystery. I will take care of it.”

As for whether or not Villeneuve believes Rick Deckard is a replicant (the greatest lingering mystery of Blade Runner), the director remarks, “Now that I am on the other side of the fence, I cannot answer.”

Star Wars: The Force Awakens

The Art of Star Wars The Force Awakens

One of the most prized possessions of any diehard fan of the original Star Wars Trilogy are the art books first published by Ballantine to coincide with the films’ release. Packed with concept and production art from such legends as Joe Johnston, Phil Tippett, and of course the immortal Ralph McQuarrie, they stand as perhaps the ultimate testament to the artists who crafted the legend. So I’m almost as happy to report the news that The Art of Star Wars: The Force Awakens is on its way as I was to hear that the film was being made. Due out on the same day The Force Awakens hits theaters, December 18, the book promises sketches, storyboards, matte paintings (!), blueprints, and tons of interviews with the creative team, topped with a cover image of Kylo Ren by the great Doug Chiang (pictured above). Yes, the Force is with us in all kinds of ways this holiday season.

The Martian

Speaking of Ridley Scott… The director’s latest science-fiction film, The Martian, is garnering heaps of praise for its smart tale of survivalist science fiction. The film’s latest clip features two of its cast members whom we’ve not seen much of thus far, Jeff Daniels and Donald Glover…

Due out on October 2nd, The Martian stars Matt Damon, and also features Jessica Chastain, Kristen Wiig, Michael Peña, Kate Mara, Sean Bean, Sebastian Stan, Aksel Hennie, and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

London Fields

Amber Heard has proven she’s got what it takes to be a first-class femme fatale. So, I’m anxious to see what she does with her latest effort in London Fields, a reportedly mind-bending noir in which she plays an American writer in the UK who receives a premonition of her own murder. Directed by Mathew Cullen and based on what is arguably Martin Amis’ most acclaimed novel, the film co-stars Billy Bob Thornton, Jim Sturgess, Cara Delevingne, Theo James, Johnny Depp, and Jaimie Alexander. It premieres at this month’s Toronto International Film Festival. Here’s the first clip from London Fields

Jeepers Creepers 3

Jeepers Creepers

No less a filmmaker than Francis Ford Coppola is producing Jeepers Creepers 3, the franchise’s first installment since 2003’s Jeeper Creepers 2. According to Myriad Pictures, the film will reunite the folks behind the first two chapters, including writer-director Victor Salva and actors Jonathan Breck (as the Creeper, pictured above) and Brandon Smith (as Sergeant Davis Tubbs). Production is expected to start early next year in Vancouver.
